A Little Reminder From Toby & Mrs Mac

Toby & Mrs Mac Warmly Welcome You, Rocking Dog

Toby & Mrs Mac Warmly Welcome You

Yes, A Little Reminder From Toby & Mrs Mac regarding Rocking Dogs Sale which is happening this Sunday 11-2ish. They would love to see you. Bless them they have a brilliant viewpoint from their lofty mantlepiece spot. However, they are slightly disgruntled by the amount of Christmas Crud crammed on their home turf. Life certainly feels more overcrowded. You may remember how Mrs Mac got her name – her script tells us -she is a present from Fleetwood!

So in short, lovely Rocking Dog sewn items to buy, a few bits of furniture to relocate to new homes, truly delicious homemade cakes to stash, vintage table linen etc.. and lots of Christmas slush!

There will be space to sit around the kitchen table to eat cake, enjoy a coffee or mulled drink and have a natter! All profits from refreshments will go to Young Carers.

Parking – The White Horse Inn is sadly currently unoccupied, I suggest parking in their car park and then walking the short walk down Mill Lane to Christmas madness!

A warm welcome awaits you- see if you can spot Toby and Mrs Mac in Christmas crudville.

Look forward to seeing you. Liz x

PS. If you haven’t purchased your Christmas tree yet- there are some great places to buy one close by.

The Vintage Washerwoman!

The Housewife Is Efficient If The Clock Is Correct, Rocking Dog

The Housewife Is Efficient If The Clock Is Correct

I have been the Vintage Washerwoman! Laundering, starching and pressing, Rocking Dog has been dealing with a mountain of vintage hand embroidered table linen. The delicious pieces will be for sale at Rocking Dog’s festive sales (Saturday December 5th The Original Vintage & Handmade Christmas Fair at Chipping Sodbury and Rocking Dog’s very own sale on Sunday 13th December).

I particularly love the German wall hanging in the large photograph. Being someone who is persistently chasing her tail I like the ironic phrase “The housewife is efficient if the clock is correct”. I think this piece will be adorning my kitchen sometime very soon!

There are festive cloths sewn with pine cones, stars, candles, holly, baubles and bells. Another laundered stash feature florals. Violets, apple blossom, roses, daisies and other embroidered flora ramble over table cloths and tray cloths. How lovely to lay up a table with snowy sprigged linen, vintage china and delicious homemade cakes. What could be more lovely than enjoying a vintage tea in front of a blazing fire.

Continental window panels have been reconfigured by The Dog into pretty decorative cloths. Oh too lovely to dry dishes but sweet hung from a kitchen peg to add detail to a tired kitchen.

Hand Washing a la Francais!, Rocking Dog

Hand Washing a la Francais!

Writer’s Block has rather taken it’s toll on me this sunny June! Thankfully I possessed enough verve to complete envelopes for some important “Save The Dates”. It was lovely to put my recently acquired calligraphy skills to use (thank you to Meticulous Ink and The Makery). Another envelope project was to pretty up a plain envelope to gift some cash. A ripped Selvedge magazine image and Mrs Beetonesque calendar cake shred did the trick in a jiffy!

The memories of Chelsea Flower Show still casts a warm glow, and I have been busy trying to make strides with my own garden. The latest purchase has been an old roll top bath from Ebay. This is the first one of a planned four which will form raised beds for my kitchen garden. This time next year the baths will hopefully be bursting forth with salad leaves, herbs, chard and a myriad of other edibles. Not quite The Good Life…. but…!

The garden is a sea of pretty weeds, new planting, and Mr Dursley’s pesky rubble. Mole hills (Grrr!) proliferate at an alarming rate. I even glimpsed the mischievous velvety little fella doing his worst! To add to the general mayhem we are having a new run of fencing, but this has come to a grinding halt. A blackbird is sweetly, but everso slightly inconveniently nesting on the rear of one of the old panels. Work will therefore restart once the chicks have fledged, Aaaahhh! Meanwhile, confetti production continues, cherries ripen, elderflowers need picking for summery concoctions and we need rain to replenish the brook.

Sewing has recommenced with Rocking Dog making laundry bags to stash away items for hand washing. All too often a favourite woollen or silk scarf has mis-adventured into the washing machine. Has it happened to you? I guessed a drawstring bag to separate delicates could be useful. Using pretty up-cycled fabrics for the gloved hand appliqué, I then hand stamped the bags with the words “Lavage a la Main” (which I truly hope means washing by hand in French). These bags will be for sale at a future Rocking Dog event. They would be perfect for packing in a holiday suitcase.

Another laundry project has been to wash and starch some lovely 1930’s table linen. Oh decisions, which pieces can I bear to part with…. and just exactly how many tablecloths does a girl need?!

Finally we all have to eat… and how lovely to use rhubarb from the garden for a Jamie Oliver recipe. Summer on a plate!

Rocking Dog is pleased to be writing again.

Everything’s Blooming For Spring Sew Well !

Flower Sprigged Vintage Linen, Rocking Dog

Flower Sprigged Vintage Linen

With the beautiful blue skies and the birds singing it felt very spring like yesterday so Rocking Dog has been getting excited about beautiful blooming florals. Plans are underway to make some lovely new products to herald the beginning of spring.
I will announce some Rocking Dog dates to put in your diary hopefully very soon.

I have some lovely vintage table linen, hand embroidered with an array of spring flowers, chicks and Easter eggs. How I love to see a pile of freshly laundered starched linen, it makes me want to keep it all!

This week sees Rocking Dog making more wedding bunting, made from antique lace. These handmade lovelies are so pretty for decorating a marquee, garden or church doorway. Also ready to be sewn are more vintage lavender stuffed hearts. They would look exquisite hung in numbers from tree branches, or given as unique wedding favours. I am always happy to help wedding couples with bespoke banners, favours, bunting and other decorative loveliness! I love styling weddings and parties, so if you would need a skilled creative pair of hands to help set up, frou and take the pressure off – give me a shout. Please spread the word.
