Who Do You Think You Are?

Walter and Emily
The elves were busy in the Rocking Dog workshop until the early hours but nothing finished to show! So … Who Do You Think You Are? I love family history and with the help of Ancestry.com, trips to cemeteries, and correspondence with unknown relatives have found out SO much. From Turquoise miners in New Mexico, grocers in Tasmania, Gelatine factory owners in Buffalo, to butchers, millwrights and workhouse inhabitants. I can now trace my mothers family back to 1550 when a Marmaduke Lodge married an Alice Swallow in Yorkshire. So the Art Deco swallow bowl is my tribute to Alice! Incidently have you ever read Oscar Wilde’s the Happy Prince? There is a swallow in that story and every but every time I have a lump in my throat and tears streaming down my face. Have a safe trip to sunnier climes little swallows!

Rosettes

Mums are Best

Quick labels for parcels (these were for a Baby shower). The orange rosette is made from a short length of pretty ribbon. Hand sew a line of running stitch along one of the long edges of the ribbon and then pull the cotton so it gathers up. Anchor with two or three stitches and stitch the two short edges together neatly. Cut a circle of thin card and handwrite or stamp a message and glue to the centre of your rosette. Add some contrasting ribbon to finish. The other rosettes are made from paper fairy cake cases. You could adapt the idea to make table place names, badges or adornments for paper hats or party bags. As the meerkats would say….Simple!

Happy Monday!

For Lara
Inspiring the next generation of crafty folk. A present for maker friend, young Lara. Luggage labels, ribbons, buttons, string. etc.. all stowed away in a large glass jar. Packaging goods attractively we are told by the Gods of ┬áretail ┬áis all part of the shopping experience! I had wallpaper delivered last week – each roll was wrapped in turquoise tissue paper and sent in individual 3ft cardboard tubes- that is just plain wasteful!

The Original Rocking Dog

Home of unique and delicious products.

Rocking Dog has only been residing in Hambrook for just over a year. He was discovered and in need of a home in a vintage emporium in the lovely Dorset town of Bridport. The doggy’s proud owner is Liz who is simply far old to play with Rocking Dog, but hopes there’ll be little people in the future to enjoy her retro pet. Rocking Dog lives with Liz & Andy, together with a real live Rocking Dog, a grumpy Wire Fox Terrier called Hamish. He quite often features in posts, being the dog who finds the biggest pumped up cushion (or bed) to take long siesta’s on, adventures with his deflated ball and his love of watching Countryfile! Liz ran a catering company called Heaven’s Cake for a number of years but has decided to nearly hang up her apron. In 2013 she decided the time had come to tackle the monumental stash of gorgeous velvets, linen, Toile, chintz, ribbon, buttons and thread that had been lovingly stashed over the years. Thus Rocking Dog came about. Eclectic products are born from an eclectic busy brain, small batches of lovely things, thoughtfully made and deliciously bundled. Welcome to the world of Rocking Dog.
